There is no /cs50/ folder in my appliance and I do not recall ever seeing it there.

According to course text, there should be one in my Home folder.

  1. I am on Problem Set 6.
  2. Just got Dropbox. (Not sure if that has anything to do with it)
  3. Used update50 in gedit.

  • Have you not been running the staff versions of the programs all along? (in psets 1-5)? They are all located in the ~cs50 directory (which is in \home). What happens when you type: cd ~cs50?

  • Well, it Works! But why don't I see the folder in my Home Directory then? That is confusing.

As pointed out by Curiouskiwi, the folder was there, but I had found that I was not really in the first part of the Home folder like I thought!

To find the CS50 folder via the file browser:

1.Click on 'Home'

2.Then click on 'Computer' under 'Devices' on your left.

Now that I see how it is positioned, I understand it more clearly.

  • I have the same problem. I can find neither 'Home' nor 'Computer' on the cloud IDE.

The cs50 folder is not in your home directory.

It is another user's home directory.

Your userid is ubuntu, so your home directory is /home/ubuntu. The CS50 staff binaries are stored in /home/cs50, which belongs to userid cs50.

Using ls -l to list anything in your home directory and its children, you should find that your files are owned by userid and groupid ubuntu ubuntu. These files and directories are yours.

Try ls -l ~cs50 and see if you can list this other user's home directory. If you can (I'm on mobile now, so I can't test, but it should work) then you should find that these files and directories are owned by userid and groupid cs50 cs50. These files are not yours!
