What is the latest version of gedit and how can I download it? I'm in week one and it's saying I don't need the cs50 appliance before getting gedit. However, when I download gedit(I may have an old version), I don't have embedded terminal in plugins in the preferences.

what do you mean by "don't need the cs50 appliance"? Are you trying to install gedit on your own computer? What is your operating system?

on the appliance, you should be able to view the embedded terminal window by enabling the Bottom Panel from the View menu.

if you can't, you need to install gedit-plugins using

sudo apt-get install -y gedit-plugins

(the password is "crimson")

then enabling the terminal plugin from Edit > Preferences > Plugins and lastly trying to view the Bottom Panel again.
