Run the following commands one after another to install sublime text from the terminal:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/sublime-text-3
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install sublime-text-installer

After that you will find Sublime Text 3 from Menu->Accessories->Application Finder and search for Sublime Text. Then you can drag and drop it on the taskbar. You can also open it from the terminal using subl [nameOfTheFile.ext]. Type the name of the file if you want to open it or create a file with that name. Then each time you run update50 (or sudo apt-get upgrade thereof) Sublime Text will be updated to the latest version.

  • I tried entering the commands but I get this error: Cannot add PPA: 'ppa:webupd8team/sublime-text-3'. Please check that the PPA name or format is correct.

  • Are you sure you copied it correctly? It works for me.

  • I actually got the 'tar.bz2' file from the site of sublime. I extracted it but I can't open the executable file 'sublime_text'

  • Download the .deb file. Then install gdebi by sudo apt-get install gdebi, then right click the .deb file and select Install with gdebi.
