Recently when working on pset4 I run into troubles having implemented an infinite loop. Instead of handling it properly, I just powered off the machine. Now I am unable to start Virtual Box. I'm getting the following message: "appliance50-2014.vbox-disc1-vmdk(Normal, inaccessable)".

Any thoughts on that?

Powered off which machine? The virtual or the host system?

If you are in the terminal ctrl+c will terminate the current process.

In regards to your problem you could try: http://gerardnico.com/wiki/virtualbox/hard_disk_inaccessible

  • I powered off the virtual machine, by selecting the option and clicking OK, instead of using ctrl+c. The reason was that the virtual machine didn't respond anymore other than that. When trying to start my virtual machine now, I get the following:" One or more virtual hard discs are not correctly accessible. As a result you will not be able to operate virtual machines that use these files until they become accessible later." But how will that happen? Will I need to download the whole appliance again? Thanks for the link. I just can't access the appliance at all!?

  • You can still access the hard drive from the virtual box application via file -> virtual media manager. i.imgur.com/F8p0R9m.png . If you cannot recover (and no one else is able to provide a solution) then you could download the appliance again and start a new appliance. Hopefully you set up dropbox so all your code is backed up.
