When I try to compile the adder program from the week1 walkthrough, I get an error saying

make: Nothing to be done for 'adder'"

I have checked that I am in the right directory, and have included <cs50.h> and <stdio.h> libraries in my program. Can anyone help please? thanks.

Make sure the file named adder has the extension .c. Also make sure you're executing this command

make adder

NOT

make adder.c

  • I had this same problem. Solved by adding '.c' to the filename. I think this bit of info should be emphasized more in pset 1. Thank you Kareem! – user2936 Nov 6 '14 at 2:48
