I'm having trouble with the appliance, I press buttons and strange things happen and I can't figure out how to get back where I was. I have a hello program and it's stored in Dropbox, but when I code CD Dropbox I'm told there is no such directory. I'd like to get on with the "C" language but I can't get past the appliance.

  • have you installed Dropbox in the appliance? There's a link in the start menu of the appliance as well as directions in the CS50 appliance set up manual.

If Dropbox is installed, it will be at ~/Dropbox. So to get access to this folder anywhere, the command is cd ~/Dropbox. However, when you first log in you should be at ~/ automatically so you could just type cd Dropbox.

Note: You can use pwd to "print working directory", which basically shows you which current directory you are in. And ls to list all the files and directories in your current directory.

If from this you have deduced that it is still not there then double click the home folder on the desktop, and check if the dropbox folder is there.

If it isn't, right-click on the dropbox at the bottom and go to prefereneces, then change the location to /home/jharvard/Dropbox.
