Used to be able to download videos, is this a bug? If intentional, why?

  • I'm not sure this is something that can be answered outside of Harvard and/or edX staff. I doubt it's a bug. As for the reason, that's hard to know. I do know they rolled out a new feature for videos with this year, so that could be a factor. That's purely speculation though. You can download videos from cs50.tv. – Peter Jun 7 '17 at 21:13
  • @Peter do u know how to contact CS50 staff? I'm on slack and Gitter. Also I don't think cs50.tv allows for iOS downloads which is my goal. – JBallin Jun 7 '17 at 21:31
  • Your best best is probably heads@cs50.harvard.edu – Peter Jun 7 '17 at 21:35
  • @Peter Thanks! Will update with their response – JBallin Jun 8 '17 at 16:30

One of the co-founders of edX informed me that CS50 stores its content on its own servers and therefore edX can't facilitate the offline downloads.

They must have updated their app. See this:

To download videos, you must be connected to the Internet.

However, you can download them online and watch them offline.

You can watch course videos on the mobile app, and can also download videos to your mobile device for watching when you do not have an internet connection.

If you still have issues, comment below.

  • Thanks for the response! You seem to be confirming that they've removed that functionality? Not sure why you included anything beyond the first sentence? I'm curious why they removed that option... – JBallin Jun 7 '17 at 18:58
