I don't know if I can make the CS50 course by 31 Dec. I planned to get a certificate. What would happen if I upgrade the course to get a verified certificate and then not finish it this year, but some time early next year?

I don't think anything will happen because the last date has been pushed on to jan 2019..plus i have also heard that you don't have to re-write the psets which you have already submitted ,even if they were to change in the 2017. Check cs50 fb ..many have asked this question there and Brenda Anderson has already answered them.
