I am getting the error above when I try to check my program for pset2. After a while I get a longer, more cryptic error. I am not able to surf using Chrome.

I did just upgrade to Windows 8.1 and this was working last week when I checked my program.

Is this a Windows 8.1 problem?

  • I have encountered such problems when I come back after Saving the machine state. And it becomes fine after restarting virtual machine, give it a try if you didn't already.

  • Thanks but I did try this along with rebooting my own computer. Interestingly, when I try to run VMWare, I get a Program Compatibility Assistant window which says a reinstall is required ... I thought it did this when I saw the message the first time. Sep 15, 2014 at 16:45

I stumbled across the answer when I rebooted.

Reinstalling VMWare is done on my Windows computer, not in the appliance itself. I thought it reinstalled when I got the Program Compatibility Assistan window.

VMWare ran almost perfectly even though I was running a different version of Windows. It only caused problems with internet access but this was solved by uninstalling VMWare and reinstalling it.

Sorry for the silly question and thanks for your help.
