In pset8, I went to developers.google.com/maps/web as mentioned in the documentation. But google redirected me to developers.google.com/maps/overview. And there is no option to get an API key in the top right corner as mentioned in the documentation. I navigated through the page and found Maps for Web. I went there. There was an option to GET STARTED. When I clicked it, it opened a pop-up and asked me whether I had to add it to an existing project or create a new project. I chose to create a new project. When I clicked NEXT, it redirected me to a billing webpage where it asked me for credit card information and a lot of personal information. I closed that tab and opened my Google Cloud console. The project appeared there but there was no API Key. I went back to developers.google.com/maps/overview, and I saw a message that the billing plans are changing. I clicked on the embedded link in the message and got redirected to an article (The migration guide for existing users). The article said that the billing plans had changed and that everyone will get $200 free credit each month. But I still had to give away credit card number and other important details. What should I do now?

be sure to grab the latest version of the problem spec (and the distribution code). You are no longer required to use your own API key.

  • Thanks for the help. The link you have is for CS50 2018. I am doing CS50 2017. Can I use the 2018 distribution code in CS50 2017? Jun 2, 2018 at 7:05
  • Given that you can't submit the 2017 course, I'd suggest using the 2018 materials. (it's not changed too much).

  • Unfortunately this API key is expired. I am getting this error loading mashup index page: You have exceeded your request quota for this API. See developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/…
