My CS50 finance app passes all check50 tests except just one in the SELL component. I just can't find the error and need thoughts/ideas / tried a lot ( read: a-lot). My code was created in 2017 and now adjusted to the 2018 specification. Here is the error report produced by check50

:( sell page has all required elements
    expected to find select field with name "symbol", but none found
  1. The program works fine so far as I see.
  2. The sell.html file has the form name as "symbol" as required in the 2018 spec.

    <div class="form-group">
    <input autocomplete="off" autofocus class="form-control" name="symbol"
        placeholder="Stock" type="text"/>
  3. The python code appears (to me) to reference the "symbol" name correctly

    if request.method == 'POST':
        symbol     = request.form.get("symbol")
        shares     = request.form.get("shares")
        return apology("Data Error; Try again")
    if not symbol:
        return apology("Oops .. please enter a valid share Acronym")
  4. and when the SELL routine is finished it redirects to the index page

I'd sure appreciate any thoughts on where to look for the error that check50 reports? Does anyone know what check50 is testing or really looking for?

The form has an input element whose name is "symbol". The spec requires a select element.

Require that a user input a stock’s symbol, implemented as a select menu whose name is symbol.

Here is doc on select from MDN.

  • Yes ... I guess that's why "teams" are good. I read and reread that specification many times and didn't get the "Select" vs "Input" point. Thanks for the extra eyes and taking the time to post. Jul 26 '18 at 17:33
