I can't seem to find an explanation for the phrase "sans trailing line ending"? From what I can gather, line ending refers to CR (carriage return) and NL (newline) but I still can't grasp the meaning of the phrase.


Where did you see this? "sans" means "without" so it sounds like you've either got a missing newline or an extra one.

  • Found in description of get_string() reference.cs50.net/cs50/get_string, just means you receive the string until newline, without the \n (on UNIX, Linux, or BSD like MacOSX), \r on MacOS (pre X), or \r\n (CP/M and compatible) ending the input.
