So I get the Gtk-warning when I execute:

sudo gedit etc/hosts

I have tried restarting the appliance and it still does not work. Are there other ways to fix the bug or access the hosts file?

  • Don't want to be anal, but have you tried putting the slash before etc? sudo gedit /etc/hosts – Jesse Oct 6 '14 at 17:31
  • I got this problem too! And with respect to @JesseLisser's suggestion, that did not work for me either. – gedm Oct 7 '14 at 2:09
  • Please show the full response from bash when you execute that command. Are there any other error messages? What is the warning? – Air Oct 7 '14 at 23:35
  • Restarting the appliance and/or update50 solved this issue for me. – Cygni_61 Nov 2 '14 at 14:34

Use another editor, nano for example. See the answer here.
