I cant see the less comfortable / more comfortable view mode option in the drop down list when i click on the menu button. I cant see the tool menu button either (i guess i am somehow stuck in the more comfortable view). :(

Can someone help me out to get the more comfortable view mode?

I tried to access the CS50 IDE in safari, firefox and chrome but the result is the same. Also updated the CS50 IDE but no luck. is there some user preference that i need to select.

  • If memory serves, that option has not been available since the 2017 (edx) version of the course. I'm not sure what you mean by "tool menu button". What are you trying to accomplish with "less comfortable view"? May 8 '19 at 18:55

More comfortable mode has been removed from the CS50 IDE for quite some time now. If you suspect your settings are out of sync, you should be able reset your settings to the default by clicking CS50 IDE > Reset Settings on the top-left corner.

Thanks for the quick reply, Kareem.

I am trying to preview a webpage in the IDE. How can one preview a webpage in the IDE?

I was following the HTML short which showed that by right clicking the page to be displayed, i get a preview option. For some reason i dont have this option.

I checked the forums and came across the following links, neither of these options work for me. i guess because the IDE has moved on so much since these responses.

"If you aren't actually running a server, you can preview an html file by opening the file in your editor, then, in the menu, choose Tools>Preview>Live Preview File. It will then open in a new tab in your browser. (not inside the IDE). (if you don't see Tools in the menu, click View>Less Comfortable to untick that setting)"

Right-click on the folder that holds your html file(s) and choose Serve. https://www.reddit.com/r/cs50/comments/9qeq68/missing_preview_option_on_the_cs50_ide/

  • That second one is the current way. What happens when you right click on the folder name? Do you not see "serve" up near the top?

  • I was trying to serve the file, not the folder. found the serve option on the folder -- problem solved :) Thanks :) Does this mean that i have to start a server and then i can 'view' the html and there is no way to preview it currently in the IDE? May 9 '19 at 21:07
  • Yes, use serve and then view it in your browser
