make mario won't work but I'm in the correct directory. I haven't even started writing the solution properly as I'm stumped on getting it to compile. Any suggestion? I tried restarting the IDE and have read other solutions to similar issues but couldn't find one for this issue. thanks!

Your mario.c file is not in your mario directory, but in your pset1 directory. Type mv ../mario.c ../mario into the terminal (or drag and drop the file into the mario folder, if the IDE allows it) and then rerun the make mario command and it should work.
