If the keyword includes &, (, or ), the program does not yell at the user for re-input, instead, comes back with the following messages for various inputs.

Please note v6 is a vigenere trial version 6, and it is handling all other keywords properly.

Those characters mean something to bash (the shell program that we are using in the terminal). So your program doesn't actually get run.

You could try:

./v6 ab\(

the \ tells bash that the next char is part of the program command line. If you do that, then your v6 program will run and you'll get your print line.

check50 won't check with any of those chars so you should be fine with the grading.
