Problem Set 3: https://d2o9nyf4hwsci4.cloudfront.net/2014/fall/psets/3/pset3/pset3.html (Section "Breaking Out", after "Backstory")

Hello. I tried to do make window (for window.c) on the terminal and I got this error: window.c:11:10: fatal error: <spl/gwindow.h> file not found. According to the instructions on the problem set, gwindow.h should exist in usr/include/spl. However, no such subdirectory exists on my virtual machine. Creating an spl folder in the appropriate directory is not permitted by the appliance (I am running appliance 19, on VMWare Player). My appliance also is fully updated. Manually copying gwindow.h into a file is out of the question as well; it needs .h files which need their own .h files ad infinitum, thus the need for a library. I apologize if this is not enough information to be helpful but I do not know what other information to include.

The body of my window.c:

 * window.c
 * David J. Malan
 * malan@harvard.edu
 * Draws a window.

// Stanford Portable Library
#include <spl/gwindow.h>

int main(void)
    // instantiate window
    GWindow window = newGWindow(320, 240);

    // let's look at it for a while

    // that's all folks
    return 0;
  • I think you should use CS50 Appliance 2014. Appliance 19 is for the fall 2013 version of the course and you're trying to solve a fall 2014 pset. You can still solve breakout in appliance 19 using these instructions instead. – Kareem Nov 25 '14 at 8:38
  • If you look at PSet4, you will find a link to 'wget' the 'src5m.zip' which contains the 'spl' folder. – DigiDaVinci Nov 25 '14 at 20:44
  • I'm using CS50 Appliance 2014 and downloaded src4m.zip (not src5m.zip) and it did not have spl in it. I noticed that the Fall 2013 does have it. I also just went directly to the Stanford site to get it. But then encountered another error. PSet4 does not contain src5m.zip. I did find that file, but it contains a different set of files (not window.c). cdn.cs50.net/2014/fall/lectures/4/m/src4m cdn.cs50.net/2014/fall/lectures/5/m/src5m. It's as if Spl was deleted along with another dependency. Does anyone plan to fix the appliance? I'm working on finding the missing dependency. – Chris Willett Dec 18 '14 at 23:57
  • After cloning spl from Stanford, and fixing a bunch of permission related issues in the Makefile, I now get this error. Error: Could not find or load main class stanford.spl.JavaBackEnd – Chris Willett Dec 19 '14 at 0:57
  • Hello, I have the exact same problem Hello, I have a bug when I "make window" : compiler returns me "gwindow.h : file not found". When I navigate in the virtual hard drive, I find the folders usr and include, but no "spl". I checked that my virtual machine is up to date with update50...no change! Can you help me to fix this ? Thanks by advance, Stanislas – user4639 Jan 12 '15 at 20:32
