I've got a Toshiba Satellite E55t-A5320 running Windows 10 Technical Preview and Kubuntu 14.10 Plasma5 which I use as my daily driver.

Now every day, or to be more specific, every time that VirtualBox is closed and then reopened, when I start a VM such as the CS50 appliance in Windows 10 (not limited to the CS50 appliance, but all my other VMs such as KitKat-x86), I get errors and I have to start it a couple of times to actually get it to run.

I'm using the older version 4.3.12 since I'm not sure if the newest version 4.3.20 actually even works on Windows 10.

It usually takes 3 times to start a VM. The first errors are:

Failed to open a session for the virtual machine CS50 Appliance 19_1.

Failed to load VMMR0.r0 (VERR_LDR_MISMATCH_NATIVE).

Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: Console
Interface: IConsole {8ab7c520-2442-4b66-8d74-4ff1e195d2b6}

Then we have another error:

Failed to open a session for the virtual machine CS50 Appliance 19_1.

Cannot load R0 module C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox/VBoxDDR0.r0: SUPR3LoadModule: supLoadModule returned VERR_LDR_MISMATCH_NATIVE (VERR_LDR_MISMATCH_NATIVE).

Failed to register ourselves as a PCI Bus (VERR_MODULE_NOT_FOUND).

Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: Console
Interface: IConsole {8ab7c520-2442-4b66-8d74-4ff1e195d2b6}[/code]

Then it starts up normally. How can I get rid of these errors?

  • Perhaps you should try asking for help on the VirtualBox Community Forum, where there's more likely people with the specific knowledge necessary to help you with this specific to VB question. Besides, you're more likely to get any help at all if you can provide more details about the error (not just "VERR..."_)

There're some solutions to try here.

  • Run VirtualBox as admin
  • Go to C:\USERS\<username>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files and then rmdir /s \Oracle
  • Turn off Windows Driver Verifier
  • ...

  • I don't have Windows Driver Verifier running.

I ran into this same issue. In my case the solution consisted of deleting the folder mentioned by abelinux.

In other words, I browsed to C:\Users\\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files using Windows Explorer and deleted the Oracle subdirectory.

I then started the VM and it worked like a charm.
