I just download the cs50 appliance and was going through pset 1 and then I realized my terminal window shows jharvard@ubuntu instead of jharvard@appliance as stated in pset 1.

Is there something wrong with my download, etc? or is it alright?

You've downloaded 2014 version of the appliance, which is the official appliance for CS50x3 (2015 version of the edx course), and it's the one you should use for this version of the course.

The @appliance stated in pset1 is probably a "remainder" of last year's specs (you've just found your first bug ;).

This new appliance is based in UbuntuOS, as opposed to previous versions which were Fedora OS based. Therefore, the @ubuntu machine tag is a way of identifying them.

  • I had the same "problem", but it sounds like jharvard@ubuntu is actually correct and there is nothing to fix, correct?
