I have been trying to install the cs50 appliance. I installed the vm player and I have been trying to install the workstation for windows but it always shows a error message that the file is corrupt when I try to upload it to vm player. I really need help or else I cant finish the course. Is there another compiler that I can use besides VMware workstation.

Vmware is not a compiler, is a virtualization software. As an alternative you could try VirtualBox.

Also, your .ova file maybe corrupt due to incorrect download, cs50 doesn't provide md5sum or alike to check integrity of the file at least as far as i know, but i recommend you to download it again over torrent, as the torrent protocol makes integrity check by default.

I'm running the appliance in Virtualbox as i prefer it over Vmware. Also Vmware 11 states that it only supports 64 bit host Operating Systems in the system requirements, so maybe your computer is not 64 bit. If not, just use virtualbox.

  • If using a 32 bit PC you can still use VMWare. Just download the free for personal use VMWare Player 6.0.4 (not VMWare Workstation 11) and it may work for you (this is the hypervisor I am using). Virtualbox failed for my hardware, and I do this stuff for a living :)

You can try Virtualbox, or install VMware workstation on different OS like linux.
