How do I type curly braces and normal braces in gedit using my macbook with swedish keyboard?

How do I type curly and normal braces () and {} in gedit using my mac book with Swedish keyboard? I have tried Alt+Shift + 8/9.

This it works in other text programs but not in gedit.

On my Swedish keyboard its Alt+Shift+7 or Alt+Shift+8

Does this not work? If it doesn't, is your keyboard layout correct?

I have the same problem. Except alt+shift+9 (i.e. } ) works just fine but the alt+shift+8 just gives me a pipe. I've checked the keyboard layout, oh, I don't know, ONE MILLION TRILLION times? And it's correct. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? atm I'm copying and pasting the { while contemplating computercide.
