The VirtualBox version of the appliance currently has an issue with the gedit install. Staff are aware of it and are working on a fix. In the meantime, run this: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install --reinstall gedit That should get it up and running again.

I am not sure if this is still relevant, But I believe creating a new virtual machine is the solution. New Give a name to your VM Type: Linux Version: Ubuntu (64 bit) - But when I loaded the VM it says that appliance is of fedora distro [guess the version does not really matter] Next Select memory size Choose "Use an existing virtual hard drive file" ...

The first and the foremost solution to the problem was google, which lead me to this link where David Sir posted about this error. Although that was on Mac OS X. The link redirects to this, 3rd topic from the top. I have made a copy of those instructions here. For some reason, VirtualBox doesn’t always come with a "host-only adapter" configured. (A "host-...

I am using the Appliance on Ubuntu 14.04. Initially I tried VMware and ran through lots of trouble, but then I used VirtualBox (which I had previously installed,) and everything worked fine. After removing VMware (with VirtualBox installed,) I just double clicked the Appliance's OVA file, and it got installed. At the end of the VirtualBox tutorial for Linux ...

I'm currently using a windows 10. I have re-downloaded the virtual machine and it's still displaying this message. Can someone help me with this?

Version 3 of the appliance is years old. You should be using version 2014. As a CS50x student, you can get a "valid until end of 2015" VMWare Fusion 7 license via the CS50x Software Center as explained here: https://manual.cs50.net/appliance/2014/fusion/ If for some reason you want to use VirtualBox (or your Mac isn't compatible with VMWare Fusion), here ...

I get the same error message. I installed my virtual box and appliance in windows 8.1 and it worked perfectly with windows 8.1. After the upgrade without changing anything else, it doesn't work anymore. Error text: The virtual machine 'CS50 Appliance 2014' has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code 1 (0x1). More details may be available in 'C:\...

if you direct-downloaded the appliance, it's possibly that the file was corrupted. try torrent-downloading the appliance. for VirtualBox: http://mirror.cs50.net/appliance50/2014/releases/29/appliance50-2014-vbox.ova.torrent

Try setting your Adapter 1 as NAT and disabling the other 2 adapters. You may need to enable the Host-only adapter later (when you reach pset7). Update: you should also enable the "Cable-connected" option as per the screenshot below

These are the steps: File, import appliance, appliance to import (click on the folder and find the appliance -- open virtualization format (.ovf)) and accept the defaults. This should work.

I had this problem. The reason was in cs50 Appliance's network settings. I had changed all of adapters to "host-only" instead of only second adapter. After deleting Appliance and mounting it again I changed only Adapter2 to "host-only" and it became works.

The "No IP address" problem is caused as the cs50 appliance expects the ip address to be on eth1. Try the following link and it should solve your probem. https://cs50.stackexchange.com/a/7807/3225

Most of the times Vmware Player or Virtual Box doesn't work because virtualization features haven't been enabled on your Computer Hardware. You have to "turn on" this setting on your BIOS setup, a menu that can only be accesed while the computer boots up (usually by pressing DEL key, or some other key specified by your computer). You have to follow the ...

I used VirtualBox under linux Ubuntu 14.04 without hardware virtualization, and switched to HAV only some days after I started the course. You should be able to access Internet without HAV. On this link you'll find a way to run CS50 library from your Linux distro.

Download VMplayer instead. It is a breeze.
