I think I figured out how to use WINSCP. Use the appliance IP address as the "host" and the given username: jharvard and password: crimson And that's it! You can see your files and directories from the appliance and drag anywhere to your computer.

Make sure you have VMware tools installed. I think you will find it under VM -> Manage. If it is stippled (greyed out) make sure you have a CD Rom mounted to linux.iso. Something like VM -> Settings->Hardware->add->CD/DVD-> ISO. This article may help.

What I take from the error, is that the upgrade to Windows 10 messed up some files the VMware was using. It will be a little difficult to fix that, better uninstall VMware and all it's files, re-download VMware Workstation and the appliance and re-install them. Your underlying directory structure most likely changed. You should be able to reinstall just fine, or remove the old instance and create a new virtual machine pointed to your saved appliance file.
