PSET8 - Error: near "wc": syntax error

Question

I am trying to execute the command : wc -l US.txt inside the sqlite3 terminal but I keep getting the following error:

Error: near "wc": syntax error

This is the sequel of the commands I am trying to execute:

sqlite> wc -l US.txt

...> SELECT COUNT(*) FROM places;

And after these I get the error. I could really use any help.

wc is a linux command, not sqlite command.
