i was just wondering if there is anything that can be done to speed up the virtual machine.

I'm working on Windows XP, 512 MB Ram, CPU 2.4 GHz, not having hardware-assisted virtualisation.

If you need further information, please don't hesitate to contact me. Thanks in advance

Best Wishes

If this is your primary PC you use for your everyday life, I'm afraid there is not much you can do. The appliance is designed to be as bare minimum as it gets. On the other hand, if this is a machine you can use just for CS50, or some casual web surfing, you can install the appliance's operating system directly to your hard drive, and not through a virtual machine. This way it will have access to the full resources and not just the fraction of them that the virtual machine gives. You can find the operating system from the official CS50 site where at the final paragraph of the NOTICE there is a link for an ISO image, which you can burn to a CD or a thumb drive and install it to your hard drive. If you can't find the link, it's that link.

Have you thought about adding RAM? Additional RAM will help. Also, you may want to upgrade your OS. You shouldn't be running XP anyway. Think about installing Linux.
