After updating to the latest version (60) of ide50, I'm still getting the "403 Forbidden" message after following the steps outlined in the pset's instructions.

According to previous questions posted this should have fixed all bugs affecting permission issues, but apparently, at least for me, it didn't do the trick.

So my question is, what should I do next? Will following the directions given by @MattObert on his post work with the new update? Is there something that needs to be added to the pset instructions so that anyone trying to complete this in the future doesn't run into the same issue?

  • I am having the same problem with the "403" Forbidden message and then "Apache/2.4.7 (Ubuntu) Server at ide50-markedw.cs50.io Port 443" after following the pset's instructions. How can I get around this problem? Commented Aug 15, 2016 at 23:46

I'm on mobile and doing weekend fun stuff, so I haven't had a chance to test ide50 version 60 yet to see whether permission issues are resolved, and I can't do that now.

In general, you should be able to fix permission issues by carefully reading the PHP error messages in the browser, and the Apache log files under /home/ubuntu/lib/apache2/log/error.log (hope I got that right, I typed it from memory).

Directories should be set chmod 755, PHP files chmod 600 (and if that doesn't work, try chmod 640).

For anyone trying to get started on pset7, know that ide50 version 60 is still presenting permission issues, and following the pset's instructions will not be enough to get you started. Go to Matt Obert's guide for more information on how to get started.

  • The permissions have changed. Unfortunately, the spec has not yet been updated to reflect the new permissions. See: reddit.com/r/cs50/comments/4uum31/… Commented Aug 17, 2016 at 3:00
