I'm on the Getting Started part. I did as the spec told, but I don't see the map but the Code box. Neither do I see any errors or warnings. Am I on the right track?

Here is the screenshot.

Update 1: I checked the console and saw the NoApiKeys error:

Update 2: here is the scripts.js. I didn't add or change anything in it.

Have you tried to clear Chromes's cache? https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/32050?hl=en

Another approach is to use the browser in incognito mode.

Chrome's incognito mode uses a fresh cache and cookies and gets rid of it off when you close the incognito window.

And you shouldn't worry about that NO APIS KEY error, it's minor. You can do the pset normally even with that warning (I had it when I completed this pset and I still have it to this day)

When I did this program in 2015, I found that, as I was coding, if I did something wrong, the map wouldn't display - only a blank white screen. If you haven't started coding, but are just working on getting things set up to start, then I'm thinking you got a step wrong somewhere. I would then backtrack to the last point where the map displayed.

I'd suggest that you backtrack, or even start over, assuming that you haven't started adding code.

Of course, I could be totally wrong on this one. ;-)

  • Great to see you again, Cliff! This happened before I added any code. I think I carefully followed the spec. I'm not sure what to do next as some posts say the chmod part in the spec is outdated. I've tried the chmod in those posts, but it still doesn't work. Or maybe it's due to the fact that google is blocked in China. But I still can't see the map using proxy.

  • maybe post your entire scripts.js so we can try to reproduce this behavior? Commented Dec 7, 2016 at 14:51
  • I have the same issue, but only in the Chrome browser. It works in firefox, though it still lists the APIkeys warning in console. Commented Dec 7, 2016 at 18:57
  • Thanks for the tip Tucker, although Firefox didn't work for me, I tried it in Microsoft Edge and it worked!

  • @Yuri Laguardia I've updated the scripts.js file. Thank you!
