Now I'm done with CS50, I'd like to unload the Appliance, but have no idea how to. I can clear the VM easily enough, but suspect that may leave Gb of appliance clutter on my disc. Oddly, even Google fails to find an answer, so presumably the answer is blindingly obvious! Any advice welcome.

I am using an old Macbook, OSX 10.8.5. So unfortunately I'm still in teres incognita. Thanks Tim.

My appliance is stored in /Documents/Virtual Machines (I expect that was the default when I installed VMWare Fusion.)

If it's not there, use Finder and search for kind: vmware and it should show you the appliance file. You should be able to simply drag it to the trash.

  • Kind of you to answer. Nothing like VMWare or Virtual Machines found with Finder or Spotlight. I'll just put VM application in trash. Commented Jan 4, 2016 at 23:52

If you don't immediately understand these directions and/or aren't comfortable executing them, then you should get someone else to assist you that is.

If it's a windows machine, use the "Uninstall a Program" tool in the control panel to uninstall the software. But first, get the name of the directory where it is installed (it's in the properties). After the uninstall and after rebooting, go in and delete the directory where it was, if it is still there. If you created any working directories that you also want to get rid of, save what you want from them and then delete.

From here on out, it gets more complicated. If you're not comfortable doing any of this, you shouldn't.

Do a directory search for any directories like VM*. Once you know they were related, remove them.

Using a tool like ccleaner (SIC), run a check on your registry and remove any keys left behind. This is probably the riskiest activity described here.

OTOH, if it's an Apple computer, I can't help you.
