Continuously frozen IDE terminal. This is not a frozen screen of computer or laptop but the IDE terminal itself:

For the last few weeks. I've been experiencing problems with the cs50 IDE terminal. Namely while typing the code. The IDE frozen and seconds later I could start typing again. Continue everything I had previously typed "before the IDE was frozen" in the respective .c file was automatically typed over the code I was retyping again “So on top of the code I was typing” the code overlaid with the code I typed earlier, and appearing in the .c file. It was very annoying to constantly experience something like this.

Does anyone have similar experience with the IDE terminal, what was the cause and the solution of it. I would also like to know how to solve this problem. This is very annoying. Any possible solution is welcome thanks.

  • I have often experienced this, not in a file but in the terminal while typing a command. All i do is wait for everything to get typed before I continue. Do you experience this during a particular time frame or throughout the day?

This might be an issue related to your computer, because CS50 IDE is literally a computer running in the cloud being rendered to your screen, but if it's not that:

  1. Restart your PC
  2. If even then it does not work, write your code locally using a text editor, and then paste it into the IDE before running. Don't forget, the only way to paste in CS50 IDE is Ctrl+V; right-click pasting does not work.
  3. If you're a bit upset about the lack of text colouring in a text editor, create a .c file locally (on your PC), right-click and open in a text editor like Notepad++. Then when you write your code it should be coloured.

I know that this may not be a perfect solution, but if it helps please consider upvoting and marking as correct :).

  • Yes, I also thought that, the cause was my computer and internet speed. But doesn't seem to be them, I checked my computer and checked the memory, clean the cash restart my computer. I also have High internet speed 500 mb, this was not the problem either. I am using the online IDE terminal and not on the local computer. And all the online applications that I use through my browser, I have never had a problem with it except IDE terminal. You can't copy code and paste it into the terminal this is against the cs50 lines

  • No no no, I didn't mean copy and paste code off the internet! I meant write the code on your computer. Install a code editor like VSCode, and write the code there. Then select all, copy and paste THAT code into the IDE. It's not an issue if it's your own code you're copying and pasting!

  • I understood your first comment. In cs50 IDE when you work on a assigment you can not copy and past even your own code form notepad++ or other editor and pasted or ctrl+v on the cs50 IDE Terminal but thanks anyway. I appreciated your feedback Thanks
