My appliance seems to crash (screen goes black and prompts password for login) whenever I run breakout from pset3. I have no problem compiling and running the program but after a few seconds the appliance crashes. Is there something wrong with my code or is it the appliance itself?

If you saved your work in Dropbox you could try re- importing the appliance and see if that changes anything.– DavidCommented Nov 5, 2015 at 2:41

I'm experiencing the exact same thing. Until now it just ran very laggy.– GabrielCommented Nov 20, 2015 at 21:28

I'm also having the same issue. The appliance is installed on my computer and not in a VM.– GaryCommented Nov 20, 2015 at 22:56

I have found a way to stop it crashing by booting into recovery mode. If you are running the appliance on a VM this may not apply, but if the appliance is installed on your computer this may work.
When the computer boots, choose the following option from the grub menu(The X's represent numbers that may be different):
Advanced options for ubuntu XX.XX.X LTS (XX.XX) (on /dev/sdaXX)
Then select:
Ubuntu, with linux X.XX.X-XX-generic (recovery mode) (on /dev/sdaXX)
Then select:
resume - Resume normal boot
Then click OK.
Now when it boots you should be able to run breakout without it crashing and going to the login screen.
