When I run check50 for vigenere I get the message "Usage: check50 id path [path...]. I have tried restarting the appliance and running update50, which seems to run, but the check50 still gives the same message.

Are running it as it says in the spec?
If you’d like to check the correctness of your program with check50, you may execute the below.
check50 2014/x/pset2/vigenere vigenere.c
That error seems to indicate that you aren't actually giving all the arguments.

It means you haven't typed the check50 command correctly. It has nothing to do with your actual program.– curiouskiwi ♦Commented Oct 21, 2014 at 19:33
