I've been using CS50 for 2 weeks with no problem until now.

I hit restart in Ubuntu and now it's stuck at boot screen at "Restoring resolver state..." I've try'd waiting, hitting command Q or command W... I've restarted my mac (mac os Yosemite) but as soon as I restart VMware Fusion and resume the state of virtual machine, Ubuntu 14.04 is still stuck at boot screen.

How can I force Ubuntu to restart or shut down? Thank you.

I realized that one can access VMWareFusions menu even when Ubuntu is frozen. On a mac one holds the mousse cursor at the top of the window for a few seconds and the menus appears. Under the menu item "Virtual Machine" there is an option to "restart". That will reboot the OS within the Virtual machine as though you had done reset on a physical machine.
