I'm trying to create a new directory inside my pset1 directory. When I execute "~/ $ mkdir ~/pset1/mario" I get "bash: /home/ubuntu/: Is a directory". I think I need a better understanding of directory structures, and how to make sure I am in the right location. Can anyone help? Thank you.

Do not type the prefix "~/ $ ", just start with mkdir. For example, here you can see the wrong way, followed by the right way to do this:
