I have a macbook pro Retina with a 128 Gb SSD. I want to install VMware fusion but i barely have any space to do so. I was thinking of installing it on an external drive or a 3.0 USB. Can anyone help with how to do it? Thank you

I had the same problem and here's how I solved it. I used Virtual box but VMware should be the same. Install VMware on your internal SSD and run it. Then click the import option and select the appliance. (It doesn't matter if you downloaded it to the external HDD or the SSD). During the import the program will ask you where you want its virtual hard drive to be. Select the external HDD. That way you install only the program to your SSD but the whole appliance resides in your external HDD.
